Back n the 50s 60s and into the mid 70s my gran had 2 rooms at the top of the flat no bathroom no heating and a hot water geezer in both rooms .
You had to go across the landing to go to the other room .
The only heating was a coal fire in both rooms .
There was a shared toilet for all the tenants. When my gran got offered another cooncil flat she didn't want to go even though it had a bathroom and storage heating.
She didn't have much but what she had my gran as content and happy with.
