Having now watched the full interview and done some googling, it appears that Neil Oliver is entirely correct.
From the Police Commissioner himself:

However, we are there to enforce the rules that the Government makes, and if the Government makes those rules then the Government has to explain that to the public.'Neil is right to highlight this IMO.
I'm actually embarrassed that for a slight moment I doubted Oliver's integrity. Shame on me and many thanks for setting my mind at ease VOR. I really should have known, as as soon as I looked at the selectively edited Bella tweet the replies were all just personal attacks, especially about his appearance. Many of those attacking his appearance don't exactly appear to be Brad Pitt doppelgangers themselves.
