Unbelievable folk still fall for the unionist GERS figures designed to keep Scotland in the union and for the MSM to splash that figures all over their front pages .

As Pete says they don't represent how an independent Scotland would be .

Who's 2 trillion in dept? Aye Westminster.

“This means the statistics have been found to meet user needs, to be methodologically sound, explained well and produced free of political interference. Official statistics are produced in accordance with professional standards – more information on the standards of official statistics in Scotland can be accessed at: https://www.gov.scot/statistics/

Straight from Scottish government website.

So now you are willing to put complete faith in the words of the Scottish Government. Is that always the case? Or often?

Politicians lie as a matter of course, all politicians.
Statistics don’t.

Well they're not going to falsify figures to make themselves look bad, are they?

Statistics do lie. Even a child can understand that concept. It’s where the term “lies, damned lies and statistics” came from.

They aren’t entirely Scottish Government figures though. They are developed in Whitehall by UK civil servants.

And if the figures are bad it means they are bad under the status quo. The report itself, which you seem very keen to accept in its entirety, states that it does not represent the financial position of an independent Scotland.

They were the basis of the independence white paper and the SNP growth commission report.

No wonder the MP’s and MSP’s are jumping ship from the SNP.

They know the games up.

What would the deficit be in an independent Scotland?

What would the deficit be in an independent Scotland?

Nobody knows.

Unlikely to be as high as the supposed 8% as per GERS or the current UK deficit of 16%.

I base it on normality and the view that medium sized countries sized countries with first world infrastructure who govern themselves provide better outcomes for the people living in that country.

Even if it makes us poorer?

I think it’s unlikely to make us poorer, but staying in the Boris’ Brexit Britain will certainly make us poorer.

Show me figures that make it ‘unlikely’.
