As a Unionist, I've been watching the developments surrounding A4U with some interest.
I think Galloway talks nonsense, even when he is bashing Nationalists. However, gaining publicity isn't about putting over facts in a calm and collected manner, it's about stirring people up and grabbing headlines. George knows this IMO, which is why he acts the way he does.. that and he loves massaging his own ego!
As far as I can see, he just intends to stand list candidates? So I can't see him getting anyone elected unless he really ups his game between now and next years Holyrood elections. The Unionist voters will just stick with their usual parties. It is extremely hard for new people to break through.. look at how dismal a result RISE got for example.
I CAN see there being some benefit to his involvement though. He has already contacted various people to get them to stand down and make way for the best placed Unionist party, to no avail. If he is able to use his profile to spread the tactical voting message instead, then it could help matters for the pro-Union vote. There's been attempts at tactical voting coordination before, but these have really just been over social media with the odd newspaper article. Galloway could fill this role, making it clear who to vote for in each seat, without any Unionist parties getting flak for being involved in an alliance.
One thing I'll say though, it would be absolutely hilarious/brilliant to see Galloway in the Scottish parliament!
