Andrew Neil is floating it again for the unionists at the moment and this remains a real risk to us supporters of independence. The SNP have a policy for our own currency but they are not pushing it publicly, promoting instead a period of sterling use while a currency is set up after independence.
This can cost us points in any upcoming campaign. Now that a new referendum has largely been conceded by Whitehall, I really want to see the SNP getting out ahead of this.
We need to set up our own currency now, or as soon as possible. Put it in the manifesto for May if required but get on with it.
Well over in Canada they use the dollar and come and go without too much bother between the 2 countries .

Indeed. Many countries set up and used their own currencies well in advance of independence.

Eh? They use the Canadian dollar and it's a right pain in the arse at the border. I lived in Alberta for nearly 2 years and used to go to Wyoming, USA.

Nobody in the US or Canada seems to want a currency union though.
I was replying to bucs inaccurate and misleading post.
who cares, I'll still have
**** all.
I was on a south American cruise and an older Canadian lady told me this about 15 years ago.
Was only going by what she had said .

Can’t put it in the manifesto. It’s Scottish elections not a GE.
The election should be fought on local issues that the Scottish parliament has power over.
The constitution is a reserved matter.

I’m not convinced currency is a constitutional matter and I don’t think the Scotland Act prohibits it.
I'm ok with them using the pound until we get ourselves properly set-up. The pound is as much ours as it is anyone elses.
Then gradually cross-over.
Hell, I wouldn't be against the Euro.

It is pure fantasy and is intended to deflect from the mess they are making of services they have full responsibility over.
Only the gullible fall for it.
