Hope so. Gaelic is a load of old shite and there's no need for all that signage all over Scotland. Another waste of money.

Maybe we'll have 3 languages on our police cars soon.

Strange that the SNP have omitted Polish given their championing of diversity and love of the EU.

The 2011 census showed that Urdu, Punjabi and Chinese had nearly overtaken it too.  They probably have by now.

Arthur Donaldson must be turning in his grave.

Most countries have signage in more than one language. Only in Scotland is it a problem and only then among a minority of Yoons who tend to be insecure and monoculturalist in outlook.

Most other countries are bi-lingual. The UK has failed miserably in this area due to British exceptionalist mindset. Other countries rightly look down in the British for only being able to speak one language.

So the SNP who have been in government have kept the insecure and monoculturalist outlook even though they are in complete control over education....yet its not their fault?
Figures.

I’m talking about 200 years of British educational culture. There are steps and progress with regard to language. I see it in my son’s school very much but I agree Scottish education is not good enough in language and will not be good enough until all adults are bilingual, which could take another 50 years because we are starting from such a poor place.

My daughter gets Spanish at nursery and she is 3. So that’s good.

Language is one of the essences of being human. It’s one of the key things which separates us from animals and it should be a key focus for society.

I don’t like Scots as a language but I have no desire whatsoever to see it suppressed.

A poster on a lampost from our snp council offering you to learn English free. Its for 7 different languages. The council is in debt, the roads are a disgrace etc but the snp think its a good idea to spend my money on this. **** waste of money.

Except that most countries have multi-lingual signage.

About 8.

It’s used a little in my house as my wife is from the Western Isles.

Language is a beautiful thing. I have picked up a little Gaelic and I also have some Spanish as well as some conversational Mandarin from a 12 week course I did at the Confucius Institute at Glasgow Uni.

I also use some Quenya and Sindarin with my children and my dog also responds to some commands in these Elvish languages.
