A referendum will take place in spring of 2022 and independence will commence sometime in 2023.
Hopefully next year Pete.
Boris says No.
But but if Scotland votes the SNP at next year's election with the referendum in our mandate with a majority which looks like that will happen it's going to be extremely difficult for that London government to say we can't .
If they say no then that brings in plan B .
What's plan B? UDI?
I would love to see the fools try UDI
Same here, or an illegal vote Catalan style or something.
The only fair way is for them to wait at least a generation for another referendum, like they promised. Even then, it shouldn't be a guarantee.. you can't just vote on a country's status every 25 years or so, at some point you have to take a settled position or it becomes ridiculous. Talk of it should be dropped completely.
No wonder the Spanish police went in heavy when the Catalonian separatists tried to hold an illegal vote, completely breaking the rule of law and disrespecting the country as a whole.
A lot of it comes from the position that they are the virtuous ones and the 'yoons' aren't IMO.. the Catalan Nationalists were the same. They act like they speak for their region and there's no evidence to show that they do.
There's as much logic in campaigning for a separate Dalriada, Strathclyde or Northumbria.. all other ancient kingdoms which overlapped what we now called borders. A separate Scotland is not some default position that we should go for unless the economic conditions are unfavourable.. the UK is our country and has been for quite some time now and the people of England, NI and Wales are our British brothers and sisters. Every time a Nationalist goes on about how awful the UK is, they are completely disrespecting and pissing off a large amount of people who just become more firm in their stance.
