Good thing they didn't have to go to a penalty shootout.
They tend to bottle those.
Unlike Scotland of course
Quite indeed!
Controversially, I was cheering for England to win the World Cup last time. I just found their squad and manager to be less obnoxious than in the past.
With them being one of the home countries, I've always wished them well, and it always astounds me how so many hate them so much.
I always got the impression that your average tartan army 'footsoldier' based their identity on how much they could hate England, whereas England just never seemed to care about us as much. The Perthshire Lawyers in Kilts were always more interested in England's fan behaviour, an ABE T-shirt or being loved by everyone than actually caring about their own team. It reminded me a bit of the one sided St Johnstone vs Dundee 'derby' and actually made it seem that Scotland wasn't even a team with it's own identity.
I do get what you're saying though. There was a real lack of ethicicity and moral fibre about the England team in the past.
