This interesting statue is situated in the centre of Banbridge, Northern Ireland - the town my wife is from.

It is of Francis Crozier, a Banbridge native and Royal Navy Captain who participated in no less than 6 expeditions to the Antarctic and Artic.

The eleventh of thirteen children, he was the son of a solicitor and his house (Avonmore House) still stands. Crozier was also a fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society. On one fateful expedition, his two ships disappeared without a trace and no one knew what happened to him and his crew until 170 years later in 2014 when it was discovered that the ships had been stuck in ice and Crozier and crew had become victims to the hostile environment.
