SNP topped the poll and lost to Lib Dems on the 6th round of the single transferable vote.
A terrific win for the Unionists. It reinforces the fact that the SNP do so well because of FPTP at parliament and also the devolved assembly at Holyrood.
If we had the democratic transferable method across the board then they wouldn't be elected in such large numbers, never mind pretend they have mandates for referendums to split up the Nation.

The Scottish Parliament election system is proportional representation, and the de Hondt election model was chosen by the unionists specifically to disadvantage the SNP.
Hehehehe. 😀

Even if this is the case (and I have my doubts), It still doesn't change the fact that the SNP benefit greatly from a system which is largely FPTP both at Westminster and in the devolved assembly.

It is the case. Labour and the Lib Dem’s admitted it. In fact, they boasted about it to the media and it was widely covered.
For decades the SNP were disadvantaged by FPTP when their vote share was far higher than the number of seats they received but the unionists didn’t have any problem with that whatsoever.
It is good to see the righties in Scotland finally turning against FPTP however. Funny how a few election humpings can change righty views. 😀

I've learned from my time debating Nhationalists not to take them at face value on matters to do with politics, Pete.
if you can provide evidence of D'Hont's choice being from Unionists and primarily driven by an urge to disadvantage the SNP then I will readily accept it.
I don't know what other fellow Scottish righties think, but I'm just saying that the current system benefits Nhationalism and the SNP. We currently have an Independence majority of MSPs when most people voted for unionist parties at the last Holyrood election.
The transferable system that lead to the SNP's trouncing by the Lib Dems seems fairer IMO.

Fair enough mate, you've found evidence. You're right and I'm wrong here.
I'll be the big man and apologise unconditionally to you, which of course is the ethical thing to do when you realise you've made an error.

Accepted.
Now no more blaming democracy when things don’t go to your liking. 😉

It's something I'd never consider doing in the first place, I'm made of strong stuff after all.
