I've always considered reading Lord of the Rings, Pete.

My closest to it was buying a porno titled 'Lord of the G Strings' when I was younger!

Sounds a bit like Game of Bones.

Optimal reading order for Tolkien is as follows.

The Hobbit
The Lord of the Rings (twice)
The Silmarillion
Unfinished Tales (of Numenor and Middle Earth)
Children of Hurin
Beren and Luthien
The History of Middle Earth (12 volumes)
