A few of him lying on his pals knee with his fingers being run through his hair but nothing more

I don't have qualifications to that effect, but I do regard myself as a historian mate.
I believe that taking a keen interest in history and producing historical material makes one a historian.

There were rumours but nothing concrete.
Personally, I think there's a good chance he did have a same sex attraction, as his dad died when he was very young. He lived a normal life though, marrying Mary and staying with her until death.
