I'd be quite happy for the Queen to ditch all these outlying places to be honest.

Their government ditched the idea of a vote, maybe they thought the people wanted to keep the Queen?

We did so much good across the world with our Empire, I see no need for us to keep helping them all.  Barbados seem to be doing well anyway, especially on social issues.
