First man on the moon .
Astronaut. naval aviator. test pilot . university professor.
And of course aeronautical engineer.

On July 20th 1969 he and Buzz Aldrin become the first to walk on the moon .
The whole world stood still to watch that famous landing on their black and white TV screens .
I was one.

Marx Sizemore owner of Marx's Barbour shop caused big problems when Neil went for his normal haircut .
When finishing a customer's haircut he swept the floor prior to Neil taking the chair after cutting he picked up Neil's hair and sold them for $3000 in May 2004.

When Neil found out there was a number of problems even an upcoming court case.

But Neil has Scottish roots after the moon landing .in 1972 he landed in Edinburgh airport and made the journey to Langholm to vast crowds amazement.thats where his family history came from.

I can say that Armstrong was bigger than any superstar back in the day.

That must have been a great thing to live through, Buc.

The breakthroughs we've had in the last 100 years or so have been amazing, but I can't think what could have been more ground-breaking than the first moon landing.

The fact that Buzz Aldrin took communion on the moon is very special to me.

Yes indeed there was a race with the superpowers America v USSR and it was a close run thing I'm sure it was president Nixon at the time who got much credit for being the winner although JFK got the ball rolling but he was extremely worried about the cost .
That was the decade of the flying "discs" and movies scaring the world about aliens coming to earth to kill us and take control many were scared this was going to happen .
I didn't know about Aldren  taking communion until you mentioned it .

Will never forget about that moon landing the build up and the celebration's after when 1000s of thousands lined the streets to say thank you to the astronauts for winning that important race Armstrong and Aldrin were in a car with a soft top fully open and waving to the masses .

Armstrong was a lad who shunned the limelight he never liked it .
People called him a recluse but he wasn't .

When Armstrong taught at the university student's used to jump up to a door window just to see him teach Aeronautical engineering in his class .
Student's used to ask for his autograph in a card and sell it . ;D

It must have been so tempting for both the USA and USSR to cut corners during the space race.

I think this is a very interesting piece from Aerospace America.

The parade through New York looked class.

Almost as good as the famous 'Under the Bridge' in Glasgow, which we decided to get rid of.
