Title: Re: Got a warm, fuzzy feeling inside...
Post by: guest17 on September 30, 2020, 10:09:50 pm
It’s great so far. Lovely screen and really good camera for what is essentially a budget phone. Also very fast.

It’s taking a while for some of my apps to load in, but that’s due to my shitey rural broadband. Normally about 10mbps but right now a lowly 3.

Getting a 4G system installed soon with outside antenna, paid for by the taxpayer. I get 58mbps in my lift so sure a high gain antenna will get circa 80mbps. And it will be future proof with 5G capability when it ever comes here.

Our Wi-fi is a joke too, about 9mbps.
The R100 roll out isn’t reaching us soon so ScotGov will pay £400 to get companies to install alternative tech in the interim. 4G outdoors is great here so going with that.

Currently we get out of a local wireless mast system really meant for wind farms. It’s better than nothing and does pretty much what need but just not very realiable.

You reckon one of those 4g routers would work fine annaw?
I tested one. 30mbps from my upstairs landing. But that was just the router with no dish or anything outside.

Ordered a 4g router from three with unlimited data for £15 a month, I’m paying those bt **** £52 for ‘super fast fibre’

I could have a 4g router in every bedroom for less.

Hope it works well for you. Three were crap in my area but O2 and EE are fast.

I’m on ee but the wife is on three and her 4g is as good as mine so fingers crossed. Got a 30 day return on it if it’s nae up to much.

How’s the se?

Really nice so far. Took a while to finish setting up and WhatsApp took a while. Turns out there was 136,000 messages to back up and copy over! 😮

Everything now is very fast and smooth. Must be the A13 chip. Display seems nicer and yeah, it’s pleasing. 😎

Getting a stiffy over a phone🤫🙄

Got a Samsung phone only a few months old does the job I'm not into high tech stuff probably because I'm clueless and won't get the best out of them .
My last phone was a Samsung.

Gone are the days of the massive phone I had back in the day and massive 300 pound per month bills .
Not £15 a month i get loads of minutes texts and 6 something for my internet..
Tesco are very good you go back to them when contracts up they put on extra stuff.

Bang on.

It’s to arrive in the next 30 mins!

Exiting times Pete, I put a new skin on ma iPad and keyboard the other day, made a bloody fine job of it too I must say. It is a bit of an Irish theme though thinking about it, closet timbo and all that. 😉

I'm just used to the Samsung Galaxy and wouldn't dream of buying anything else.

They’re all the same really, just different skins running on top of android, you should consider it next time you’re getting a new one, you can get so much more for your money. The cameras were always what let down the cheaper phones but they’re upping their game there too, OnePlus have got better cameras than Samsung’s in some cases these days.

Samsung Galaxy for me. iPhones are overpriced and overrated. They're also a massive pain in the arse to fix when they **** up.

They’re really not that expensive depending what you buy, the new se is about £400 I think, far better than any comparible Samsung, the beauty of the iPhone is the software is tailored to the hardware so you’ll get 5 plus years of updates, be lucky to get 2 on a Samsung and they’ll always be about a year behind a pixel phone, they’re notorious for their slow updates.

The note 20 is more expensive than apples flagship phone, so is their galaxy fold and their z flip. Their standard s series are near enough a grand these days too so the myth that there’s some apple tax is just that these days. An iPhone will also hold its value 5 times more than a Samsung or any android phone, Pete will probably still get £100-£200 for his old iPhone 7, try selling an android phone of that age and you’ll be lucky to get £50 so it’s swings and roundabouts.
Who the **** do you think you're talking to?

😃 I do apologise, this is one subject you won’t gazzump me on though, I’m a tech nerd. For the record I enjoy using both platforms, I own phones on both, I just find the hate Apple gets to be unwarranted, certainly these days. If you want the best android experience then Samsung should be your last port of call imo. There are some amazing phones coming out of China for absolute buttons with top level specs, poco, xaiomi, one plus, oppo etc. Huawei we’re doing some great stuff but the google ban rules them out of being usable for me.

I've had a Samsung Galaxy for a while now.  My contracts up so I'll be making the switch back to the iPhone soon enough.

You simply cannot beat the iPhone and I very much regret making that initial switch to Samsung.

A wee review tomorrow, Pete?
It’s brilliant to see that this board is an iPhone board.

Will certainly post a review. I was hanging on for the 12 but it’s not out yet and 4 years in with my iPhone 7 it’s just struggling, especially with battery, now that it’s running iOS 14.

I’ve had a 3.4,5,6 and 7 in my 11 year love affair with the iPhone.

I decided tonight just to take the plunge for the recently released iPhone SE. It’s very like the 7, which I adore, and it still has fingerprint ID instead of face, which I much prefer. It’s got the a13 chipset of the XR though, so it’s greased lightning, and it’s got a better battery, screen etc. And it was only £469.

I don’t need a 12 as there’s no 5G out here so this felt like a bargain.
